Kyle Murphy - Newtown, Connecticut
Director of Goaltending
Coach Murphy brings a deep passion for the game and helping goaltenders develop. He served as the Head Goalie Instructor for the Danbury Ice Arena in-house program from 2014 to 2017 while still playing in the area. He then went on to work for Prime Goaltending as an instructor from 2017 to 2021. His playing career took him to play at Saint Michael's College (NCAA, Division 2) in Burlington, Vermont before concussions sidelined him during his freshman season. Since then, Kyle has been fully dedicated to coaching the sport.
He strives to use only the latest and best training techniques and methods, and enjoys learning as much about the position from his goalies as teaching it. The goalie position in hockey is one of the most unique in sports, and the techniques and styles are constantly adapting. Kyle believes the best teachers of the position will always view themselves as a student of it.
Coach Murphy believes skill and technique are not the most important qualities of a strong goaltender. The mental challenges of the position are great, and it takes a strong mind and will to be the best goalie you can be. Kyle has studied yoga, meditation, and other practices and has worked with goalies on adding these to their routines. He is excited to work these practices into his programs at MyEdge Hockey.
